Through these appointments, LG Energy Solution aims to respond swiftly to market changes such as the temporary slowdown in electric vehicle demand (the so-called "EV chasm") and tariff agreements, while maximizing organizational execution. The company stated that the personnel changes focus on restructuring and streamlining the business for fundamental competitive advantage and improved portfolio profitability, securing superior product capabilities and cost competitiveness, and strengthening research and development (R&D) and technological leadership.
To ensure a stable transition of form factors and optimize operations at its global manufacturing plants, the company has integrated production organizations under each business division. Additionally, to proactively address the rapidly growing energy storage system (ESS) market, LG Energy Solution has significantly expanded the size and capabilities of the ESS Battery Division.
Hyungsik Kim, born in 1973, has served as Head of Business Strategy and Strategic Alliances for the Automotive Battery Business Division since 2022. Since last year, he has led the ESS Battery Division, where he is credited with expanding mid- to long-term supply contracts and strengthening fundamental competitiveness through differentiated strategies.
In addition, six individuals have been newly appointed as Senior Vice Presidents: Kim Nakjin (Small Battery Product Planning/Strategy), Kim Hyuntae (ESS Product Planning/Strategy), Bae Jaehyun (ESS North America Operations Pack/LINK Production Support), Son Kwonnam (Next-Generation Cell Development, Future Technology), Lee Seunghoon (Head of Infrastructure Group), and Heo Sungmin (Automotive Marketing 4).
