The construction of the new Gadeokdo International Airport, which will be the largest single civil engineering project in Korean history, has launched a major accident prevention initiative by establishing a systematic safety and health management system based on international standards.
The Gadeokdo New Airport Construction Corporation (Chairman Lee Yoonsang) announced on the 27th that it has completed the audit by the Korea Management Registrar (KMR), a certification body for the Safety and Health Management System (ISO 45001), and has obtained the certification.
ISO 45001 is a leading international certification standard that evaluates an organization's capability to prevent industrial accidents and the suitability of its safety and health management system. With this certification, the "safety-first principle" that has been emphasized throughout the entire Gadeokdo New Airport construction project has now been officially recognized.
After establishing its Quality and Safety Office in November, the corporation has focused on industrial accident prevention activities such as strengthening management's safety leadership, establishing safety and health management policies, enhancing the ability to respond to major accidents, and spreading a proactive safety culture. Since June of this year, the corporation has systematically prepared and followed procedures to obtain international certification in the field of safety and health.
