Gijang County in Busan Selected as Outstanding Institution in Busan's Local Welfare Evaluation
Achievements in Community-Centered Welfare Administration
Gijang County Receives Encouragement Award, Gijang-eup Wins Excellence Award
Gijang County (Governor Jeong Jongbok) was recently selected as an outstanding institution in the "2025 Comprehensive Evaluation of Local Welfare" conducted by Busan Metropolitan City.
In this evaluation, Gijang County received the Encouragement Award in the district and county category, while Gijang-eup received the Excellence Award in the town, township, and neighborhood category, recognizing their achievements in providing community-centered welfare administration.
Organized by Busan Metropolitan City, the evaluation targeted 16 districts and counties as well as 206 towns, townships, and neighborhoods. It focused on indicators covering all aspects of local welfare, including: ▲the level of outreach health and welfare services, ▲performance of the Hope Welfare Support Team, ▲activities of the community welfare council based on public-private collaboration, ▲the system for identifying and supporting households in welfare crisis, and ▲efforts to prevent solitary deaths.
Gijang County has adopted "Building a Community that Cares and Grows Together" as its core strategy, and, together with its five towns and townships, has continuously strived to provide customized welfare services and strengthen a community-centered welfare system. In particular, this year, the county received high marks for further enhancing its system for identifying households in welfare crisis by newly introducing initiatives such as the "Gijang Greeting Mail Service" and the "Cool Village Safety Discovery Team" under the Gijang County Summer Safety Council.
Efforts to implement customized welfare programs-such as activities to prevent solitary deaths and surveys on socially isolated households, which involve directly observing residents' living conditions-were also highlighted as notable achievements.
