The event titled "2025 Welcome! Is This Your First Time with VFX?" was held on the 24th at the 60th Anniversary Hall of Kangwon National University, hosted by Chuncheon City and the Kangwon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and organized by the Gangwon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency. Marking its second year following last year’s inaugural event, the gathering aimed to boost Chuncheon’s AI and VFX industries. Over 150 participants attended, including domestic AI and VFX companies, local universities, institutional representatives, and young talents.

At this event, the "Chuncheon AI-VFX Alliance" was officially launched to establish an industry-government-academia cooperation ecosystem. The alliance includes domestic VFX companies such as Digital Idea, Giantstep, Motorhead, and M83, as well as local universities like Kangwon National University, Hallym University, and Korea Polytechnic University, and organizations such as the Gangwon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency. The alliance plans to build an industrial cooperation model where companies, universities, and local governments can grow together, in connection with the Urban Regeneration Innovation District.

The keynote speech was delivered by Park Sungjin, CEO of Digital Idea, who introduced the "Chuncheon AI-VFX Success Strategy." This was followed by a special lecture by an AI film director, a VFX supervisor lecture, and a company showcase. On-site, participants responded enthusiastically to the chroma key filming experience zone, VFX practice area, and promotional booths for companies located in the Urban Regeneration Innovation District.

Additionally, the event featured director Shin Dongyoung, known for AI-based films such as "Thanks for Calling" and "The Guardian," who shared insights on the future prospects of VFX and AI technology development.

VFX, short for "Visual Effects," refers to techniques that use computer graphics and special technologies to create scenes that do not exist in reality. Its applications are rapidly expanding across the content industry, including film, advertising, gaming, and broadcasting.

Yook Donghan, Mayor of Chuncheon, stated, "AI-VFX is a core industry of the future, and Chuncheon will become an experimental city and testbed where companies and talents gather," adding, "We will strengthen the foundation for industrial ecosystem development and corporate cooperation."

Meanwhile, in September, Chuncheon City was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Urban Regeneration Innovation District project, targeting part of the Camp Page site (127,000 square meters). Over the next five years, the city will secure 25 billion won in national funding to attract advanced video industries, including VFX (visual effects), to the Urban Regeneration Innovation District as a new future growth engine for the area.
