Goheung County Begins Full-Scale Harvest and Purchasing of Yuzu
Higher Prices Than Last Year
Farmers Expect Increased Income
On November 20, Goheung County in South Jeolla Province announced that it had visited the Dowon Nonghyup Yuzu Purchasing Center to inspect the site and review the production and distribution status of Goheung Yuzu, which has entered the full harvest season along with the Yuzu Festival.
As the largest yuzu-producing region in the country, Goheung County plans to purchase approximately 7,880 tons of yuzu this year to help local growers secure sales channels and stabilize prices. Yuzu purchasing began on November 11 and is being carried out at local processing companies in cooperation with regional agricultural cooperatives.

However, the overall production is expected to reach 8,770 tons, a slight increase from last year, thanks to an expansion in cultivation area.
The on-site purchase price is currently being traded at around 4,500 to 5,000 won per kilogram on average, which is about 13 to 15 percent higher than last year's price of 4,000 won. This is expected to make a significant contribution to stabilizing farmers' incomes.
Goheung County Governor Gong Youngmin, who visited the purchasing center, stated, "Yuzu is a representative brand and specialty product of Goheung, and it has a significant impact on farmers' incomes and the local economy. We will continue to support efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the yuzu industry together with farmers, so that Goheung Yuzu can grow into a premium product recognized not only in Korea but also worldwide."
Meanwhile, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit dinner held in Gyeongju, "Horangi Yuzu Saengmakgeolli" (Tiger Yuzu Fresh Makgeolli), made with Goheung Yuzu concentrate, was selected as the official toast beverage. During the Yuzu Festival, tasting events were held for "Horangi Yuzu Saengmakgeolli" by Bae Hyejeong Doga and "Dalbit Yuzu Makgeolli" by Seoul Jangsu, providing an opportunity to widely promote the global excellence of Goheung Yuzu.
