Gyeongsan City Wins Top Prize in 2025 Korean Medicine Promotion Contest
Recognition for Efforts in Developing and Implementing Tailored Strategies and Detailed Projects
On November 18, Gyeongsan City (Mayor Cho Hyunil) received the top prize at the '2025 Regional Korean Medicine Promotion Plan Performance Report Conference' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare at the SETEC Convention Center in Seoul.
This performance report conference was organized to recognize and award local governments that participated in the best practices contest for regional Korean medicine promotion plans, targeting local governments nationwide. The evaluation was based on a comprehensive review of five criteria, including the relevance of strategies and projects. The event also aimed to share outstanding cases and explore directions for the development of next year's projects.
With the obligation for local governments to establish regional Korean medicine promotion plans starting in 2024, these plans are being developed to enhance accessibility to Korean medicine and build industrial infrastructure tailored to local conditions. The goal is to apply Korean medicine to health prevention and promotion throughout citizens' life cycles.
Accordingly, Gyeongsan City set the vision of "A Healthy World Where All Citizens Are Happy Based on Korean Medicine." The city developed a plan that concretized implementation strategies and detailed tasks through a thorough analysis of the local context and the status of Korean medicine in the region.
The main components include: ▲ Establishing the foundation for Korean medicine promotion through ① formation and operation of a Korean medicine promotion task force team, ② operation of the Dongui Korean Medicine Village, and ③ guidance and inspection of Korean medicine medical institutions and pharmacies; ▲ Implementing preventive-oriented Korean medicine health promotion through ① operation of the Gyeongsan Healing Forest, ② operation of the Korean Medicine Health and Happiness College, and ③ support for postpartum care expenses; ▲ Providing Korean medicine services by strengthening public healthcare through ① community-based rehabilitation projects, ② pilot project for primary care (Korean medicine) home visits, ③ Korean medicine infertility support project, and ④ operation of Korean medicine clinics within public medical institutions.
