Daegu Happiness Promotion Institute's Mobile Shelter Protects 50,000 Street Youths This Year
The Mobile Youth Shelter, operated by the Daegu Happiness Promotion Institute (Chairman Bae Ki-chul), has met with over 50,000 local youths so far this year, playing a vital frontline role in protecting and supporting at-risk youth.
The mobile youth shelter, created by converting a 45-seat bus, visits areas with high concentrations of young people four to five times a week, providing street counseling and emergency support activities. Since its opening in 2015, the number of users has increased by 2-3% annually, earning considerable attention and trust from local youth.
As of this year, the shelter has provided various promotional activities, counseling, and protection services to 50,740 local youths. In particular, for those exposed to danger on the streets, the shelter has offered protection to 5,440 individuals, counseling to 944, assistance with returning home to 6,017, and a total of 53,731 emergency services.
The emergency services include medical support, the provision of feminine hygiene products, snacks, and other daily life and health assistance, ensuring that youths in crisis can receive immediate and practical help through a systematic approach.
On November 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the mobile shelter carried out a joint street counseling activity with youth-related organizations around 2.28 Memorial Central Park in Jung-gu, under the theme of "Amusement Park." This event was organized to help students who had just completed the college entrance exam and wandering youths relieve academic and career stress and provide emotional stability.
The shelter plans to continue traveling the streets to directly reach at-risk youths, offering warm attention and practical support, and will remain a reliable protection hub as a "shelter on the street."
