The county also stated that the project will be pursued with the goal of completion by 2029.
This complex town, with a total investment of 69.4 billion won, is an innovative environmental and welfare convergence model at the highest national level, simultaneously realizing three core values: converting organic waste into energy, recycling waste vinyl, and enhancing welfare.
The core of this project lies in a two-track resource circulation system that produces energy while preventing environmental pollution.
First, the integrated biogas facility will process 120 tons of organic waste per day-including livestock manure, food waste, and sewage sludge-in an eco-friendly manner. The biogas produced in this process will contribute to the region’s energy self-sufficiency.
Second, the public pyrolysis facility will process 20 tons of waste vinyl per day, which is difficult to treat, using a pyrolysis method to recover oil, thereby taking the lead in realizing a circular economy.
Hoengseong County plans to establish an eco-friendly energy town that enhances residents’ welfare by utilizing the energy produced from these two facilities.
The energy town, to be built in the Chowon-ri area of Gonggeun-myeon, will include a healing center utilizing waste heat, a subtropical plant greenhouse, and a rest area (cafe). It is expected to become a model case in which environmental infrastructure serves as a hub for local welfare and culture.
