However, it has been reported that the decision to withdraw the application regarding the salt farm itself is still under review.
As of November 18, Taepyeong Salt Farm announced that it would maintain the national registered cultural heritage status of the stone salt warehouse, which is currently being used as a gallery.
It is known that Taepyeong Salt Farm has verbally communicated this policy to relevant authorities, including Sinan County.
Back in April, when the U.S. government suspended imports of solar salt due to suspicions of forced labor involving people with disabilities, Taepyeong Salt Farm regarded this as a loss of symbolic value as a cultural heritage and applied for the deregistration of both the salt farm and the salt warehouse as national registered cultural heritage sites.
However, it has been reported that Taepyeong Salt Farm has not yet made a final decision regarding the cancellation of the registration for the salt farm itself.
Nevertheless, Sinan County determined that the application did not meet the requirements for deregistration under relevant regulations and requested that Taepyeong Salt Farm withdraw its application.
Separately from Taepyeong Salt Farm's application for deregistration, Sinan County has submitted a plan to the National Heritage Administration seeking support for the maintenance of the salt farm.
