Namwon City to Implement 'Saejeon District Drainage Improvement Project'
13.7 Billion Won in National Funding Secured
"Enhancing Safety in the Agricultural Sector"
Namwon City in North Jeolla Province announced on November 18 that it will implement the "Saejeon District Drainage Improvement Project," which involves installing and upgrading key disaster prevention facilities, including a drainage station, in the Saejeon-ri area of Songdong-myeon, a region that has been repeatedly identified as prone to flooding.
For this project, the city has secured 13.7 billion won in national funding and signed an agreement with the Namwon branch of the Korea Rural Community Corporation in July 2022 to systematically carry out the initiative.
The Saejeon District has experienced recurring flooding of farmland due to its topographical characteristics, which hinder smooth drainage during heavy rainfall. In particular, during the summer monsoon season, nearby crops are inundated, resulting in reduced yields and ongoing inconvenience and damage to farmers. This has led to longstanding demands for improvements.
The current drainage improvement project aims to address these issues by expanding disaster prevention infrastructure, including the construction of one new drainage station and the maintenance of three drainage channels with a total length of 3.77 kilometers. Through these measures, the city expects to dramatically enhance drainage capacity during rainfall and enable more stable management of farmland.
The city anticipates that, once completed, the project will significantly improve the drainage capacity of the Saejeon-ri area, greatly reducing the risk of flooding and further strengthening agricultural productivity.
