Gangdong-gu Builds a Smart and Safe City with AI CCTV
Expansion of Intelligent Selective Surveillance
Real-Time Response to Emergencies
Gangdong-gu in Seoul (headed by District Mayor Lee Soohee) is accelerating the realization of a smart and safe city by expanding the implementation of its ‘Intelligent Selective Surveillance System’ that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) video analysis technology.

This has significantly improved monitoring efficiency and the speed of initial response.
Previously, it was practically impossible for monitoring staff to watch footage from more than 4,000 CCTV cameras. However, with the introduction of AI technology, a system has been established that automatically filters and notifies staff of key situations, enabling more efficient responses.
Building on these achievements, Gangdong-gu is pushing forward with the expansion of its intelligent CCTV project. Following the installation of a selective surveillance system for 480 cameras last year as part of Seoul City’s ‘Intelligent CCTV Advancement Project,’ the district plans to upgrade 320 existing cameras to intelligent models and add 211 new units this year, expanding the total to around 1,100 cameras.
Lee Soohee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “We will continue to advance our intelligent surveillance system to protect the lives and property of our residents, and to create a crime-free, safe Gangdong-gu where people can live with peace of mind.”
