Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province has recently benchmarked outstanding cases of subtropical fruit smart farm operations in the Pocheon area, embarking on efforts to discover regionally specialized crops in response to climate change. During the visit, the county also reviewed the youth smart farm development policy project and the need to attract experiential facilities following the registration of Jaraseom as a Gyeonggi-do Provincial Garden, exploring various possibilities.
The Gapyeong County delegation toured five smart farm greenhouses at Sunwoo Farm, which produces papayas and bananas, and listened to explanations about cultivation techniques, facility management systems, and proprietary seed and seedling technologies. Since its establishment as a corporation in 2020, Sunwoo Farm has built smart farm facilities covering approximately 13,000 square meters on a 26,000-square-meter site, planting 1,900 papaya trees and 30 banana trees, and producing about 100 tons annually.
In particular, Sunwoo Farm is recognized as a leading example for having developed special cultivation soil technology using livestock manure and agricultural by-products, as well as independently creating the "Pocheon Sweetan Papaya" brand, all without government subsidies.
