Police Uncover 3,840 in Special Crackdown on Corruption and Irregularities... 31 Detained

The National Office of Investigation under the National Police Agency announced on November 13 that it had uncovered 3,840 individuals during a four-month special crackdown on corruption and misconduct.

Of those identified, the police referred 1,253 individuals to the prosecution, and 31 people with serious charges were taken into custody. A total of 2,592 public officials were apprehended for crimes such as bribery, abuse of authority, and passive administration. Among them, 485 individuals (including 15 who were detained) were handed over to the prosecution.

Unfair practices, including illegal rebates, hiring corruption, and unlawful real estate speculation, accounted for 672 individuals (292 referred to prosecution, 14 detained), while safety-related offenses such as faulty construction involved 576 individuals (476 referred to prosecution, 2 detained).

By status, public officials made up the largest group with 1,972 individuals detected. This group included heads of local governments, local council members, and former members of the National Assembly.

The police established an investigation system centered on provincial and metropolitan agencies for major corruption and misconduct cases. Of the total number of individuals apprehended, 48.3% (1,854 people) were directly investigated by anti-corruption and economic crime investigation units at police agencies nationwide.

The police stated that, as investigations are ongoing for 1,990 individuals, the special crackdown period has been extended until March 31 of next year.

A police official said, "Active reports and tips from the public are more important than anything else, so please report to 112 or your nearest police station."
