Accident Occurred After Reversing 28 Meters and Then Driving Forward 150 Meters
A man in his 60s who drove a truck into Jeil Market in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, killing two people and injuring 18 others, has been arrested by the police.
The Ojeong Police Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 13th that they had urgently arrested a man in his 60s, identified as A, on charges of causing death and injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.
A is suspected of causing a truck accident at Jeil Market in Wonjong-dong, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon, at around 10:55 a.m. on this day, resulting in the deaths of two women in their 70s and injuries to 18 others.
According to the fire authorities, among the 18 injured, three were classified as critical patients (with impaired consciousness), six as emergency patients, and the remaining nine as non-emergency patients. The police initially reported 21 injured, but later corrected the number, stating that there had been duplicate counts.
Park Geumcheon, field commander at Bucheon Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province, stated during an on-site briefing, "(The truck driver) first reversed 28 meters, then drove forward 150 meters, causing the accident."

Commander Park also commented on the cause of the accident, saying, "The driver mentioned 'sudden acceleration,' but after reviewing the vehicle's CCTV footage, it is difficult to confirm this with certainty." He added, "It was determined that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, and during the incident, the truck did not crash into shops but instead struck people while driving along the market road."
