Chuncheon City Succeeds in Transforming with "ROMANTIC" Stay-Type Travel Content
Surpasses 1,177 Visitors and Achieves Over 100 Million Won in Revenue... Pioneering a New Horizon for Rural Tourism
The rural areas of Chuncheon have successfully transformed into "travel content," creating a new trend in tourism.
Chuncheon City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan) is implementing the "Rural Creatour" project, which had attracted 1,177 visitors and generated revenue of 113.3 million won as of the end of October. The city expects to reach a cumulative total of 1,500 visitors and 157 million won in revenue by the end of this year.
The Rural Creatour project is led by the Chuncheon Rural Experience and Recreation Village Council, in collaboration with the Chamber of Agriculture and Fisheries and the travel agency Babaground. Running from April through the end of the year, the project is based on Chuncheon's city brand "ROMANTIC" and offers stay-type rural travel packages. It has attracted attention as a new tourism model that organically connects rural resources with urban tourism.
Key programs include: the "Half-Day Canoe Tour (R·River)" featuring trekking at Deungseon Falls and Bungeo Island; the "Romantic Run Trip (M·Marathon)," a running-themed tour linking the city and rural areas; the "Forest Healing Tour (N·Nature)" focused on healing and wellness; and the "Chuncheon Culture Tour (C·Culture)" where visitors can experience local cultural sensibilities. Seasonal packages such as "Refreshing Summer Tour" and "Refreshing Autumn Tour" have also been offered, receiving a great response.
The product lineup goes beyond simple experiences, combining rural experience villages, local food stores, natural resources, and cultural facilities to develop into stay-type tourism. Notably, participant satisfaction scored 4.71 out of 5, with many saying, "I was able to step away from the city and experience the romance of rural life."
Additionally, the city conducts satisfaction surveys and on-site inspections for each participating village during project operations, ensuring continuous quality management of services. The competitiveness of rural experience and recreation villages is also being enhanced through the development of specialized content for each village, training of local storytellers, and strengthened promotional marketing. The city plans to solidify the foundation for rural tourism development by maintaining and advancing the quality of village operations and establishing a regular feedback system.
