Police Refer Former UN Member Choi Jungwon to Prosecution on Stalking Charges
Choi Jungwon (44), an actor and former member of the group UN, has been referred to the prosecution on charges of stalking.
According to the police and prosecution, the Seoul Jungbu Police Station referred Choi to the prosecution on November 12 on suspicion of violating the Act on Punishment of Stalking Crimes.
Choi is accused of visiting the home of a woman he knew in August and engaging in threatening behavior.
At the time, the police applied for and received court approval for an emergency protective order to safeguard the victim. This emergency protective order prohibits the alleged perpetrator from approaching within 100 meters of the victim's residence and from contacting the victim through electronic communications. Violating this order may result in a fine of up to 10 million won.
As the controversy grew, Choi explained, "It was a personal conflict between me and my girlfriend; a minor argument escalated into what can be described as a kind of misunderstanding."
