More than 250 male and female Saemaeul leaders from 16 towns, townships, and neighborhoods in Namyangju participated in the event. The participants took part in every step of the process, from harvesting radishes and green onions, preparing seasonings, and salting cabbages, to packaging, resulting in kimchi made with great care. Mayor Joo Gwangdeok visited the event, encouraged the Saemaeul leaders, and personally joined in the kimchi-making, adding to the sense of warmth.
Approximately 4,000 heads of kimchi, carefully prepared over the two days, were delivered to around 700 vulnerable households in the area, including elderly people living alone, recipients of basic living subsidies, and those in the low-income bracket. The city expects that this event will serve as an opportunity to spread the warmth of voluntary sharing among citizens throughout the local community.
President Lee Deokwoo stated, "I am grateful for the dedication of the Saemaeul leaders who take the initiative and practice sharing for the sake of our neighbors," adding, "Through the sharing of kimchi, we will continue to uphold the community spirit of putting 'us before me.'"
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok said, "The sight of citizens directly participating and practicing sharing is the city's greatest pride," and added, "Going forward, the city will continue to promote a culture of sharing in cooperation with both the public and private sectors to foster a warm and active community."
