Regional Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Center Leads the Initiative
Strengthening Collaboration Among Local Medical Institutions and 119 Emergency Transport System
The Regional Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Center at Andong Hospital, operated by Andong Medical Foundation (Chairman Kang Sinhong) and led by Center Director Park Heecheon, held the 'Spoke for Stroke Seminar (3S)' at the Andong Medical Association Hall, strengthening the region's capacity to respond to cerebrovascular diseases.
The seminar was chaired by Center Director Heecheon Park, with Prevention Management Center Director Gyusik Choi serving as the moderator.
View original imageThe seminar was attended by more than 40 participants, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, emergency medicine professionals from northern Gyeongbuk, and 119 emergency personnel. The event focused on sharing the latest insights into the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and building a regional collaboration system.
Since being designated as the Gyeongbuk Regional Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Center by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2022, Andong Hospital has established itself as a central hub for regional public healthcare.
Over the past two years (2023-2024), the center has achieved tangible results, including a 34.7% increase in inpatient admissions, a 10.1% rise in the utilization rate of 119 emergency transport, an 18.3% increase in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures, and a 2.2% improvement in the mortality rate of critically ill patients.
The seminar was chaired by Center Director Park Heecheon, with Prevention Management Center Director Choi Gyusik serving as the moderator.
The presentations included: 'The Past and Present of Endovascular Treatment' by Lee Hyukki, Director of the Cerebrovascular Center at Andong Hospital; 'Reperfusion Therapy for Acute Ischemic Stroke' by Hwang Yangha, Director of the Cerebrovascular Center at Kyungpook National University Hospital; and 'Operational Outcomes of the Regional Collaboration Model for Acute Cerebral Infarction Patients' by Professor Ahn Jaeyoon of the Emergency Medical Center at Kyungpook National University Hospital.
Panel discussions featured Chae Yongsik, Head of the Emergency Policy Team at the Fire Department, Kim Cheolho, former Director of Yeongju Red Cross Hospital, Bae Gwangsu, Head of the Emergency Medical Center at Andong Hospital, as well as working-level staff from the 119 Emergency Situation Management Center. They engaged in in-depth discussions on practical measures to strengthen the regional response system for cerebrovascular diseases.
Kang Sinhong, Chairman of Andong Hospital, stated, "Responding to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases is a public healthcare challenge that goes beyond the capabilities of a single institution. As a regional treatment hub hospital, we will fulfill our role as the final line of defense to protect the lives of local residents."

Andong Hospital has established itself as a central hub for regional public healthcare since being designated as the Gyeongbuk Regional Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Center by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2022.
