Hallym University Doheon Academy to Hold Fifth “Hallym Civic Intelligence Forum” Lecture on November 12
Doheon Academy at Hallym University Hosts Special Lecture by Photojournalist Hyukjae Kwon
The Doheon Academy at Hallym University (President Choi Yanghee) will host the fifth lecture of the 2025 fall semester “Hallym Civic Intelligence Forum” under the theme “My Life, My Path” on November 12, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium on the 4th floor of the Life Sciences Building. This lecture will be delivered by Hyukjae Kwon, a photojournalist recognized as a “pioneer of photographic anthropology” who captures the shining moments of people through his viewfinder.
Hyukjae Kwon, the fifth speaker of the 2025 fall semester “Hallym Civic Intelligence Forum,” began his career at Kyunghyang Shinmun in 1994 and is currently working as a photojournalist at JoongAng Ilbo. He has held three solo exhibitions at the Donggang International Photo Festival, including “Black and White and” (2009), “Face” (2011), and “In the View” (2009). He was also invited to participate in the exhibition “A Positive View,” jointly organized by Prince William of the United Kingdom and the charity Crisis. His representative works include “Hyukjae Kwon’s Behind,” “Hyukjae Kwon’s Mobile Photo Studio,” and “100 Native Flowers to See in Your Lifetime.”
Song Hogun, Director of the Doheon Academy at Hallym University, stated, “Today, anyone can take photos with a mobile phone and communicate with others through those images. Among them, the photographic dialogues presented by Hyukjae Kwon are truly unique. I hope this will be an opportunity to experience the beauty of light he conveys.”

The “Hallym Civic Intelligence Forum” is a citizen-participatory lecture series organized by the Doheon Academy to foster global civilizational citizens in an era of civilizational upheaval. In the 2025 fall semester, novelist Kim Hongshin, poet Jeong Hoseung, painter Kim Byeongjong, and singer Noh Sayoun have each delivered lectures. Following this lecture by photojournalist Hyukjae Kwon, the final, sixth special lecture will be given on November 26 by Professor Pyo Changwon (Department of Convergent Forensic Science at Hallym University), who is active as a profiler, broadcaster, and novelist.
