On November 10, Hyundai Rotem announced its participation in "TransMEA (Smart Transport, Infrastructure, Logistics & Traffic for the Middle East & Africa) 2025," the largest local transportation and logistics exhibition held at the Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC) in New Cairo, Egypt.

At this exhibition, which runs from November 9 to 11, Hyundai Rotem is highlighting its capabilities and vision for building hydrogen integrated solutions, from production to utilization, under the theme of the "hydrogen value chain," in line with "HTWO," Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen brand and business platform.

Egypt is currently constructing a new administrative capital east of Cairo, covering approximately 700 square kilometers-about 100 square kilometers larger than the area of Seoul. Once completed, this large-scale city will accommodate over six million residents, and the introduction of hydrogen electric trams as a means of public transportation is anticipated. Recognizing this local demand, Hyundai Rotem is using the exhibition as an opportunity to promote its hydrogen infrastructure business capabilities, including the hydrogen electric tram that has been approved for commercialization in Korea, and to conduct preliminary business activities.

To help visitors become more familiar with hydrogen electric trams, Hyundai Rotem has prepared locally tailored exhibition content, such as a virtual reality (VR) experience device that allows attendees to "drive" a hydrogen electric tram against backdrops of Egyptian landmarks like the Pyramids and the Sphinx.

Hyundai Rotem is also showcasing its hydrogen integrated solution capabilities-including hydrogen electric trams and infrastructure development-through a three-dimensional scale model that illustrates a hydrogen value chain ecosystem, from the production of biogas-based green hydrogen to hydrogen charging stations and mobility applications such as hydrogen electric trams. Based on HTWO, Hyundai Rotem is also strengthening cooperation with Hyundai Motor Group affiliates and external partners to expand global hydrogen mobility solutions.

Previously, Hyundai Rotem entered the Egyptian market in 2012 by winning a contract for 180 train cars for Cairo Metro Line 1, and has since secured various projects, including 624 train cars for Cairo Metro Lines 2 and 3, and 30 tram sets for Alexandria.

A Hyundai Rotem representative stated, "Based on our hydrogen technology that covers everything from production to utilization, including hydrogen electric trams and hydrogen infrastructure, we aim to promote hydrogen integrated solutions optimized for Egypt’s new administrative capital. Marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Egypt, we will do our utmost as a leading representative of K-Rail to contribute to cooperation between the two countries’ rail industries."
