Gwangju District Prosecutors Indict and Detain Three Foreign Nationals for Smuggling 600 Million Won Worth of Narcotics

View original imageThe Anti-Corruption and Violent Crime Investigation Division of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, led by Chief Prosecutor Kim Jinyong, announced that three foreign nationals, including an individual identified as A, have been indicted and detained on charges of smuggling narcotics, in violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and other related laws.
The individuals, who are nationals of Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos, have been charged with smuggling a combined total of synthetic drugs worth approximately 600 million won through international mail and other means between May and August of this year.
Investigations revealed that the drugs were distributed among migrant workers in South Korea, including farm laborers. The prosecution apprehended the suspects through direct investigations and in cooperation with related agencies such as customs.
Additionally, by reopening cases referred by the police, the prosecution arrested additional suppliers and distributors. The amount of drugs seized during the investigation was found to be sufficient for simultaneous use by about 88,000 people.
