Academic Seminar on the Buddhist Cultural Heritage of Seonunsa
Seminar to Be Held at the National Folk Museum of Korea on November 18
The Buddhist Central Museum of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and Seonunsa, the head temple of the 24th district of the Jogye Order, announced on November 6 that they will hold an academic seminar titled "Buddhist Cultural Heritage of Seonunsa and Its Branch Temples" at the National Folk Museum of Korea auditorium on November 18. The seminar aims to explore the value of Buddhist cultural heritage.

View original imageThis seminar is planned as a preliminary academic event in connection with the Buddhist Central Museum's special exhibition "Dosolsan Seonunsa," scheduled for the first half of 2026. The seminar will comprehensively cover a wide range of cultural heritage fields-including sculpture, painting, crafts, bibliography, and textiles-enshrined or preserved at notable temples in the Jeollabuk-do region, such as Seonunsa in Gochang, Naesosa in Buan, and Gaeamsa in Buan.
The seminar will be divided into two sections: "Buddhist Cultural Heritage of Seonunsa" and "Buddhist Cultural Heritage of Seonunsa's Branch Temples." After the main presentations, a comprehensive discussion will be held, chaired by Kim Jeonghee, Professor Emeritus at Wonkwang University and former Chairperson of the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation.
Jinwoo, President of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, and Kim Youngsoo, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, are expected to attend the event.

The seminar is open to everyone through advance registration or on-site registration. Advance registration can be completed via the application form posted on the Buddhist Central Museum's website, and those who register in advance and attend the seminar will receive a commemorative gift on a first-come, first-served basis.
