Notably, starting this year, the government rice procurement varieties in Yeoncheon County have changed from 'Daean' and 'Cham Dream' to 'Yeonjin' and 'Cham Dream.' The distribution of the 'Daean' variety has been discontinued due to pre-harvest sprouting issues. 'Yeonjin' has now completely replaced 'Daean' and become the county's main rice variety.
The purchase of freshly harvested rice was completed by October 31 at two locations: Yeoncheon Nonghyup RPC and Yuchang Nongsan RPC. The purchase of bagged (dried) rice will take place at designated locations in each township and town from the 5th until the end of this month.
For public stockpiling rice purchases, an interim payment of 40,000 won is provided immediately after buying from farmers. The final settlement is determined based on the national average farm-gate price of rice during the harvest season (October to December 2025), calculated for 40 kg of unmilled rice, and will be paid at the end of December.
Kim Gwanjong, Director of Agricultural Policy, stated, "With the 2025 procurement varieties changed to 'Yeonjin' and 'Cham Dream,' farmers must pay close attention to avoid mixing varieties. Violating the variety inspection system may result in a five-year restriction from participating in the procurement program, so special caution is required."
Governor Kim Deokhyeon said, "This year, due to an unprecedented autumn rainy season, many farmers suffered losses such as rice blast disease and lodging as the harvest period was delayed. The county is fully aware of the difficulties faced by farmers due to abnormal weather."

He added, "Next year, we will strengthen disease and pest control and provide more training on cultivation techniques for each variety to prevent a recurrence of such damage. We will also actively support stable rice production. The county will spare no administrative and technical support so that farmers can focus on farming with peace of mind."
