Daejeon’s Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park Rapidly Emerges as a New Urban Attraction
Over 220,000 Visitors in the First Month Since Opening
Families and Couples Make Up the Majority of Guests
Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park in Daejeon, a popular destination for families and couples, has welcomed over 220,000 cumulative visitors just over a month after its opening, quickly establishing itself as a new urban attraction for citizens.
Although the park opened temporarily at the end of September, it has been drawing an average of 7,000 visitors per day, with up to 20,000 people on weekends. Around 70% of all visitors are families and couples, who come for weekend outings, walks, photography, and to enjoy the nighttime scenery.
During the Chuseok holiday period (October 3-12), the park saw 120,000 visitors over ten days, resulting in full parking lots and congested access roads, with traffic jams stretching over one kilometer on the last day of the holiday, as citizens continued to flock to the park.
In response to the surging demand, Daejeon City plans to enhance on-site management systems, including environmental maintenance and facility safety management. The city will also continue citizen-participation activities such as the "carry your trash home" campaign to maintain a pleasant park environment.
