Park Jiwon: "Haenam and Wando Fishing Villages Selected for New Vitality Project"... 20 Billion Won Allocated
Projects Worth 54.7 Billion Won Launched
to Improve Fishermen's Convenience and Expand Cultural and Welfare Facilities
Park Jiwon, member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo), announced on November 5 that fishing villages in the Haenam and Wando regions have been selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village New Deal and New Vitality Projects.
According to Park, Hakka Port and Ugeun Port in the Songji area of Haenam, as well as Hwajeon Port and Iljeong Port in the Geumil area of Wando, have each been designated as sites for the New Vitality Project, with funding of 10 billion won per site.
Through this project, Hakka Port will see improvements such as the expansion and maintenance of access roads and the renovation of the Fishermen's Center, which is expected to revitalize the Gim fish auction house, a key driver of the local economy. Ugeun Port will undergo expansion of the pier and fish market, enhancing the safety and convenience of local fishermen.
Park stated, "In the Songji area, a total of 54.7 billion won in projects are now underway, including the 38.7 billion won Eoran CLEAN National Fishing Port and Eobuldo Bridge project in April, last year's 6 billion won rural space improvement project, and the newly added 10 billion won New Vitality Project. This will serve as a new growth engine for Haenam's development."
In the Geumil area of Wando, improvements will be made to the gateway to the island. Cultural and welfare hubs reflecting the needs of young people will be expanded, including the remodeling of a senior center and village hall near Hwajeon Port and the creation of a children's playground at Iljeong Port. In addition, the fishing port infrastructure at Iljeong Port, Korea's largest kelp production site, will also be expanded.
This year, both Wando and Jindo have achieved the distinction of being selected for the New Vitality Project twice in the same year. In Wando, following the selection of Sinji Donggo Port (10 billion won) in February, Hwajeon and Iljeong Ports have now been chosen. In Jindo, after Imhoe Dongheon Port (5 billion won) was selected in February, Uisin Chopyeong Port (30 billion won) was added to the project list in June.
