Let’s Walk Through Daegu, the Textile City: Recruiting 20 Participants for a Modern Textile Industry Walking Tour from Dongyang Dyeing Factory to the Former Cheil Industries Site
Visiting Goseong Cathedral, a Resting Place for Factory Workers
The Daegu Modern History Museum, under the Museum Operations Headquarters of the Daegu Foundation for Culture and Arts Promotion (Director: Shin Hyungseok), will hold a walking tour titled "Meeting Daegu Textile Factories on Foot: From Dongyang Dyeing Factory to the Former Cheil Industries Site" at 2 p.m. on the 12th, in connection with its ongoing special exhibition, "Factory Chimneys and Machinery Sounds in Downtown Daegu: Reading Modern Daegu Textiles."
The Daegu Modern History Museum has been successfully hosting the special exhibition "Factory Chimneys and Machinery Sounds in Downtown Daegu: Reading Modern Daegu Textiles" since September 30, 2025, as a joint project with the National Daegu Museum’s Costume Culture Specialization Museum Council and other local museums. The exhibition was planned to help visitors understand the modern textile industry of Daegu, which is widely known as a "textile city." So far, more than 8,000 people have visited, and the museum has organized this walking tour in November as part of the exhibition-related events.

Participants will then visit the former sites of Dongyang Dyeing Factory and Daedong Dyeing Factory, which were operated by Koreans during the Japanese colonial period. The tour will also include visits to the former locations of Samho Textile, Daehan Textile, and Cheil Industries, which operated after Korea’s liberation, as well as Goseong Cathedral, a resting place for factory workers. Through these visits, participants will have the opportunity to recognize Daegu’s status as a textile city and share its significance with fellow citizens. Although these locations have changed over time, the tour is expected to provide a valuable chance to experience the vibrant textile industry of modern and contemporary Daegu through markers and restored buildings in Buk-gu and Jung-gu districts.
The walking tour will begin at 2 p.m. on the 12th at the Daegu Modern History Museum and is expected to last about three hours. Approximately 20 adults who are able to participate in the walking tour will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in joining can register by phone (053-430-7917). As the tour will involve travel on Line 3, participants are required to bring their own public transportation cards.
Shin Hyungseok, Director of the Museum Operations Headquarters at the Daegu Foundation for Culture and Arts Promotion and Director of the Daegu Modern History Museum, stated, "This is a great opportunity to explore the textile industry sites within the city of Daegu on a pleasant late autumn day, and we hope for much interest and participation."
