Gimpo City is a unique city with many military protection zones, making cooperation with military units essential for urban safety and stable development. The close collaboration between Gimpo City and military units plays a key role in ensuring local safety, promoting sustainable urban growth, and building a mutually beneficial security community.
Mayor Kim Byungsoo emphasized, “Gimpo City’s status as a border area makes cooperation with the military a crucial foundation for the city’s development,” adding, “We will continue to pursue mutually beneficial cooperation between the military and the local community so that both service members and citizens can feel proud of our city.”
Since the launch of the eighth popularly elected administration, Gimpo City has been strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation with military units in the region, including the Gimpo Ship and local Marine Corps units. In August last year, the city signed an agreement to establish a ‘Military-Government Cooperation Council for Mutual Development’ and forged friendship ties between Gimpo City’s five towns and districts and five battalions of the 2nd Marine Division, thereby laying a practical foundation for military-government cooperation.
On November 1, a Marine Corps cultural festival was held at Gimpo Ship Park and the Daemyeong Port area, providing an opportunity for communication and unity between service members and citizens. In addition, the city continues to expand the foundation for civilian-military cooperation through various initiatives, including welfare support for service members and improvements to military unit environments.
