Toray Advanced Materials Completes Second PPS Production Line at Saemangeum Gunsan Plant
Establishing Korea’s Largest Production Capacity at 13,600 Tons
Toray Advanced Materials has completed the expansion of its second polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) production line at its Gunsan plant in the Saemangeum Industrial Complex, Jeonbuk, and has begun full-scale operations. PPS is a super engineering plastic known for its excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, and electrical insulation properties, making it a lightweight material that can replace metals. Its applications are expanding across various industries, including automotive parts, electrical and electronic devices, home appliances, industrial components, and housing equipment.

View original imageToray Advanced Materials announced on November 2 that it recently held a completion ceremony for the second PPS production line at its Gunsan plant, which has an annual capacity of 5,000 tons. As the first foreign company to invest in Saemangeum, Toray Advanced Materials established the world’s first integrated PPS production system-from raw materials to resin and compounding-in 2016. With this latest expansion, the company’s annual production capacity has increased to 13,600 tons, making it the largest in Korea.
The company stated that this expansion will enable it to respond to growing PPS demand in diverse sectors such as automotive, electronics, and industry, while also strengthening the development of new applications and solutions to enhance its global market competitiveness. In addition, the main raw material for PPS resin, sodium hydrosulfide (NaSH), has also been expanded to an annual capacity of 4,800 tons, further improving productivity and cost competitiveness.
