DGIST to Recruit 60 Future Science and Technology Talents... Science Creativity School Now Accepting New Elementary and Middle School Students
DGIST (President Lee Geonwoo) is accepting applications for new students to the "DGIST Science Creativity School" until November 21, aiming to nurture scientific talent among local elementary and middle school students. The program is open to current 5th and 6th graders in elementary school and 1st graders in middle school in Dalseong-gun, Daegu. The school plans to select students who demonstrate the potential to grow into future leaders in science and technology.
The "DGIST Science Creativity School" is part of a local science creativity talent development initiative led by the DGIST Institute for Convergence Talent Education. Established to implement a future-oriented convergence education model, the program opens the infrastructure of Korea's leading research-oriented university to elementary and middle school education. Since its opening in August 2025, the school has received a strong response, and this marks the second round of student recruitment. The selected students will complete a full-year curriculum on the DGIST campus throughout 2026.
The curriculum is an experiment- and inquiry-based convergence education program, designed around DGIST's advanced research environment and faculty expertise. Students will learn mathematics and science in an integrated manner, not through simple theoretical lectures, but by defining problems themselves and finding solutions through hands-on experiments. This participatory, inquiry-based approach is jointly conducted by DGIST faculty and teachers specialized in gifted education.
The total number of students to be admitted is approximately 60. For the elementary school convergence mathematics and science courses, about 10 students will be selected for each. For the middle school basic and advanced courses, around 5 students will be chosen for each field: mathematics, physics, chemistry, and life sciences. Applications are open until November 21. The selection process includes a document review, a creative problem-solving skills assessment, and an interview. Final admissions results will be announced on December 19, with registration taking place from December 29 to 31. All educational programs are provided free of charge.
Seok Changwon, Director of the DGIST Institute for Convergence Talent Education, stated, "The DGIST Science Creativity School is a special educational program where local students can directly explore the essence of science within a university research environment." He added, "We are committed to nurturing creative, convergence-oriented talent who can think independently and solve problems." He further emphasized, "Since all courses are offered free of charge, we hope that many students interested in science will participate."

Meanwhile, DGIST plans to expand cooperation with local educational institutions and municipal governments, centering on the Science Creativity School, to build a science talent development ecosystem in which the local community can participate. Through these efforts, students in Dalseong-gun are expected to experience world-class science and technology education and establish a foundation to grow into future convergence leaders.
