Former President Yoon Seokyoul appeared in court on the 31st for a trial on charges of obstructing arrest, which was additionally indicted by the special prosecutor's office investigating insurrection. Since being re-detained in July, former President Yoon had consistently been absent from court hearings citing health reasons. However, following his appearance at the trial on charges of being the leader of an insurrection the previous day, he appeared in court for the second consecutive day.
Former President Yoon Seokyoul is attending a trial on charges of obstructing official duties at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-dong, Seoul, on the 26th.
On this day, former President Yoon attended the fifth hearing of the case involving charges such as obstruction of special official duties, presided over by the 35th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Baek Daehyun) of the Seoul Central District Court.
At approximately 10:16 a.m., former President Yoon appeared in the courtroom wearing a suit and holding a yellow file envelope in his hand.
Kim Sunghoon, former Deputy Chief of the Presidential Security Service, appeared as a witness at the trial. It is known that former Deputy Chief Kim testified that he blocked the execution of the arrest warrant according to instructions from his superiors and was not involved in the assessment of the legality of the arrest warrant by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials.
Previously, former President Yoon attended the first hearing and bail review for this trial held on the 26th of last month, but after his bail request was denied, he was absent from the next three hearings consecutively. During the bail review, he argued, "After being detained, it was itself difficult to 'survive' in a 5.9-square-meter cell," but the court denied his bail request, citing concerns about the destruction of evidence.
