NH-Amundi Asset Management Holds CEO Meeting with Global Responsible Investment Initiative PRI
NH-Amundi Asset Management announced on the 31st that it held a CEO meeting on the 13th with David Atkin, CEO of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), a global responsible investment initiative.
The PRI is the world’s largest responsible investment initiative, established in 2006 under the leadership of the United Nations to support the integration of ESG into investment decision-making processes. Currently, more than 5,000 institutional investors worldwide manage approximately 128 trillion dollars in assets according to PRI principles.
During the meeting, CEO David Atkin stated, "There have been growing concerns about a retreat from ESG since the inauguration of the Donald Trump administration in the United States." However, he explained, "The severity of climate change and the economic advantages of renewable energy are driving the energy transition, so responsible investment will continue."
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of PRI’s founding next year, he shared internal policy changes that will ease the membership and reporting requirements for signatories from 240 items to 40. The parties also agreed to consider ways to share NH-Amundi Asset Management’s best practices in responsible investment, such as its ‘Say on Climate’ shareholder activities, with global signatories.
The ‘Say on Climate’ shareholder activity is a stewardship responsibility initiative that assesses the level of climate change response by investee companies and urges improvements.
Gil Jeongseop, CEO of NH-Amundi Asset Management, stated, "Responsible investment in Korea is still in its early stages," adding, "A positive environment is being created thanks to the recent ESG policy initiatives of the new administration." He further emphasized, "We will strengthen our collaborative activities with PRI to advance responsible investment not only in Korea but also across the Asian region."
David Atkin, CEO of PRI, said, "Despite the challenges in the international environment, PRI will continue to maintain investor support to create a favorable policy environment for signatories." He added, "I hope that the resumption of PRI’s engagement activities will serve as a catalyst for the development of responsible investment in the Korean market and lay the foundation for a cooperative relationship with NH-Amundi Asset Management."
CEO Gil also emphasized, "As a leading responsible investment management company in Korea, we will continue to work closely with PRI. We will strive to spread best practices not only in Korea but throughout Asia and to build a responsible investment ecosystem that meets global standards."
