Nonghyup Bank Purchases 8,245 Tons of Agricultural Carbon Credits from Farmers This Year
NH Nonghyup Bank announced on October 30, 2025, that it has purchased 8,245 tons of 'Agricultural Carbon Credits (KOC)' from 22 farms in 2025, in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector and support the spread of low-carbon agricultural technologies.
KOC is a program that allows farmers or agricultural management entities to apply low-carbon agricultural technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and trade their certified reduction achievements in the emissions trading market. Since signing a business agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation in September 2023, Nonghyup Bank has supported the certification costs for farmers' reduction achievements and has been purchasing carbon credits. After purchasing 1,419 tons last year, the bank has acquired 8,245 tons of credits this year. Moving forward, these credits will be used to offset greenhouse gas emissions during the first planning period in accordance with the partial revision of the 'Guidelines for the Operation of Greenhouse Gas Target Management,' among other measures.
