This year’s Citizen Museum University will feature a total of four lectures under the theme “Sites and Records of Cultural Heritage.” The first lecture will be delivered by Kim Yongseon, Professor Emeritus at Hallym University and a leading authority on epigraphic studies. Dr. Kim earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at Meiji University and the University of Tokyo in Japan in the 1950s, returned to Korea to lead excavations of cultural heritage sites, and served as the inaugural Director of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, Professor in the Department of History at Hallym University, and Director of the Hallym University Museum.


The third lecture will be presented by Wi Gwangcheol, Professor in the Department of Cultural Heritage Conservation at Hanseo University, who also served as Director of the Hanseo University Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center and President of the Korean Society of Conservation Science for Cultural Heritage. Drawing on his extensive experience in the preservation and treatment of excavated cultural heritage at archaeological sites, he will speak on “Preservation and Utilization of Cultural Heritage,” emphasizing the importance of conservation treatment.


The final, fourth lecture will be delivered by Choi Changhee, Professor Emeritus at Hallym University and former Chairperson of the National Archives Committee, on the topic of “Anti-Japanese Independence Movements in Gangwon.” This lecture will examine the fieldwork and research processes involved in collecting materials related to the anti-Japanese independence movements in the Gangwon region, including the Righteous Army Movement and the March 1st Independence Movement.
