The drill involved more than 360 personnel and 38 pieces of equipment from 21 organizations and groups, including Gwangju Dongbu Fire Station. The focus of the drill was on establishing an emergency rescue response and command system to prepare for large-scale disasters.
The scenario was a realistic virtual disaster situation, in which a gas leak and explosion in the HVAC room on the first floor led to building collapse and a major fire, resulting in mass casualties, creating an urgent situation similar to an actual disaster site.
The main components of the drill included: ▲ initial response and activities of the in-house fire brigade at the onset of a disaster ▲ dissemination of information to relevant agencies using the disaster safety communication network ▲ operation of the emergency rescue control team and joint response with related organizations ▲ emergency medical response training for mass casualty incidents ▲ transition to recovery and restoration systems, among others.
Through this drill, fire authorities and related agencies reviewed the division of roles and response procedures in disaster situations. By recreating situations similar to real incidents, training was conducted in various areas such as response, command, and communication network operations.
