'Future Science Early-Career Professor' POSCO Science Fellow Selected: Bae Jaewoong of Pukyong National University
Selected in Metals and Advanced Materials Field This Year
Receives 100 Million Won in Research Funding
Bae Jaewoong, Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at Pukyong National University, has been selected as a 17th POSCO Science Fellow for the 2026 academic year by the POSCO TJ Park Foundation.
Since 2009, the POSCO TJ Park Foundation has been running the POSCO Science Fellowship program for 17 years, selecting scientists in the fields of basic and applied sciences and supporting them to grow into world-class scientists.
This year, 440 early-career professors from 75 universities nationwide applied, resulting in a competition rate of over 14 to 1. Professor Bae was selected in the field of metals and advanced materials for his research proposal on "Development and Application of Heterostructured Multi-Component Alloys."
Professor Bae Jaewoong said, "I take this as encouragement to take greater responsibility in my research. Together with my students, I will continue to pursue innovative research for a sustainable society and dedicate myself to nurturing future scientists."
The POSCO Science Fellowship program selects about 30 early-career professors each year from domestic universities and research institutes who are conducting research in four basic science fields-mathematics, physics, chemistry, and life sciences-as well as two applied science fields-metals and advanced materials, and energy materials. The selected fellows receive a total of 100 million won in research funding over two years.
