Paju City to Add 5 More Buses Connecting GTX Unjeong Central Station... Transportation Improvements for Haeoreum and Byeolharam Villages
Paju City to Add 3 Buses to Route 037 and 2 to Route 077
Ridership at GTX Unjeong Central Station Up 137%
Expanded Service Begins in December
The city of Paju, Gyeonggi Province, announced on October 23 that it will closely analyze the demand for connecting routes and citizen complaints following the opening of GTX Unjeong Central Station, and will implement improvement measures accordingly. As part of these measures, the city will add three buses to Route 037 and two buses to Route 077, starting from December.
Currently, the number of bus routes connected to the GTX increased from seven routes with approximately 11,000 daily users before the opening, to 13 routes with about 26,600 daily users after the reorganization, marking a 137% increase in ridership. Among these, around 9,500 passengers use Unjeong Central Station, with a particularly high concentration of passengers during commuting hours.
According to the analysis of complaints regarding the reorganization of GTX-centered bus routes, 63% of the requests were for the establishment of new routes and the addition of buses. Other complaints included requests for route changes and improvements to bus stops.
In response, Paju City plans to increase the number of buses on routes serving Haeoreum Village, which has high demand, and Byeolharam Village, which is located somewhat farther from Unjeong Central Station. The additional buses will operate primarily during peak commuting hours (6:00-10:00 a.m. and 5:00-9:00 p.m.), when passenger demand is highest.
Looking at the detailed improvement measures, for Haeoreum Village, the city will separate the section with high demand, "Haeoreum Village-Unjeong Central Station," from Route 037 to create a new Route 037-1, and will add three buses to alleviate congestion in this high-demand section.
For Byeolharam Village, two additional buses will be added to Route 077 to strengthen rail connections between GTX Unjeong Central Station, Gyeongui Line Unjeong Station, and other areas with high demand.
