Attendees included Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, National Assembly members Kim Seonghoe and Lee Kiheon, Mayor Lee Donghwan of Goyang City, Gyeonggi Provincial Council members, and local citizens.
Governor Kim Dongyeon said, "Today, we break ground on the Kintex Exhibition Center 3, a long-awaited project for the citizens and residents of Gyeonggi Province. This day marks not only a new leap forward for Goyang City and northern Gyeonggi, but also sets a new milestone for Korea's MICE industry." He explained that the groundbreaking ceremony holds three significant meanings.
Governor Kim introduced the first significance, stating that the Great Transformation Project for Northern Gyeonggi Province will begin with the groundbreaking of the Kintex Exhibition Center 3.
He emphasized, "I have previously stated my intention to make northern Gyeonggi a game changer for Korea's growth. In order to unlock the region's limitless potential, active investment and infrastructure expansion are essential. The Kintex Exhibition Center 3 will play a crucial role in making both a reality."
As the second significance, Governor Kim pointed to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cultural Industry Belt. He explained, "Gyeonggi Province has five industrial belts: semiconductors, mobility, bio, AI knowledge industry, and AI cultural industry. Goyang City is the hub of the AI Cultural Industry Belt. Alongside Ilsan Techno Valley, Broadcasting Video Valley, and K-Culture Valley, the Kintex Exhibition Center 3 will serve as a key pillar connecting the AI Cultural Industry Belt."
For the third significance, Governor Kim highlighted the central role of Korea's MICE industry. He said, "Once the third exhibition hall is completed, Kintex will offer a total exhibition space of 170,000 square meters, including the first and second halls. This far exceeds 100,000 square meters, making it suitable for hosting large-scale international exhibitions. It will provide the foundation and competitiveness needed to attract global mega-events such as CES and MWC."
He added, "I hope Goyang City will play a central role as the world's leading MICE city and a hub of cultural and knowledge content, paving the way not only for Gyeonggi Province but also for Korea and the world. I ask for your warm interest and support."
During the ceremony, under the theme "Kintex to the World," Governor Kim and key participants pressed an LED button together, lighting up the screen to symbolically declare a new leap forward for the Kintex MICE industry. The unified LED screen displayed images of the completed third exhibition hall and colorful fireworks.

The goal is to build the 3A exhibition hall with an area of 47,000 square meters and the 3B exhibition hall with 12,000 square meters by the end of 2028.
The main facilities will include the third exhibition hall building, a four-star anchor hotel, and a multi-purpose parking complex. Upon completion, the total exhibition area will reach 170,000 square meters, which is comparable to world-class exhibitions such as CES (USA, 180,000 square meters), IFA (Germany, 160,000 square meters), and MWC (Spain, 120,000 square meters).
The construction of the third exhibition hall is the final third stage of the Kintex development project, following the 1998 plan for a comprehensive exhibition center in the Seoul metropolitan area. It is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the MICE industry, as well as the industrial, cultural, tourism, and employment sectors in northern Gyeonggi Province.
