HMM Signs MOU with Hanwha Group and KR for Joint Development of 'Carbon-Free Propulsion Systems'
On October 23, HMM announced that it had signed a "Technology Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Joint Development of Next-Generation Carbon-Free Propulsion Systems" with four Hanwha Group affiliates (Hanwha Power Systems, Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Systems) and KR (Korean Register).
The next-generation carbon-free propulsion system refers to a system that operates ships using electricity generated from ammonia gas turbines (GT) and fuel cells. Ammonia gas turbines generate electricity by combusting ammonia, a carbon-free fuel, while fuel cells produce electricity through a chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen, resulting in zero carbon emissions.
