Minister Kim Yoon-duk reportedly responded by saying, "This is an essential project for Gangwon Province," and assured that he would do his utmost to support it.
The 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan is the highest-level statutory plan that will determine the direction of national railway policy for the next 10 years and is scheduled to be finalized and announced early next year. Gangwon Province is fully committed to ensuring that the 10 railway projects, which are vital for fulfilling residents' aspirations and revitalizing the local economy, are included in this key plan.
The 10 new railway projects proposed by Gangwon Province consist of seven general railway lines (Chuncheon-Wonju Line, Taebaek-Yeongdong Line, Gyeongwon Line, Pyeongchang-Jeongseon Line, Jecheon-Pyeongchang Line, Goseong Connection Line, Chuncheon-Sokcho Line) and three metropolitan railway lines (GTX-B Chuncheon Extension, GTX-D Wonju New Line, Gyeongui-Jungang Line).
Governor Kim stressed that these projects would streamline Gangwon's railway transportation system, address underserved areas, and have significant economic ripple effects by contributing to balanced national development and generating new transportation demand.
In addition, Governor Kim requested the inclusion of other major SOC (Social Overhead Capital) projects in the Gangwon region: the passage of preliminary feasibility studies for the Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway and the Samcheok-Gangneung high-speed railway, the selection of the Sokcho-Goseong expressway as a preliminary feasibility study project within the year, and the inclusion of the Chuncheon IC-Daeryong Interchange improvement project on National Route 46 in the national plan.
Minister Kim Yoon-duk stated, "I have studied the province's key issues extensively and am well aware of them," expressing his commitment to closely manage Gangwon's major projects.
