View original imageThe Korea Holstein Evaluation Contest, hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, is the most prestigious dairy cattle evaluation event in the country, having continued for over 30 years since 1989. This traditional competition showcases achievements in dairy cattle breeding and outstanding breeds, evaluating the skills and passion of dairy farmers.
This year, approximately 200 Holstein cows and around 10 Jersey cows from over 100 dairy farms nationwide competed fiercely across 20 categories, including 8 for heifers, 8 for cows in milk, and regional competitions.
In particular, Gyeonggi Province reaffirmed its status as the undisputed leader in the national dairy industry by sweeping all categories, including both the highest honors of Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion.
This year's contest also introduced two new categories for Jersey breeds, known for their high heat resistance, to highlight the importance of responding to global warming and promoting eco-friendly dairy farming. The additions were praised for presenting a direction for the sustainable development of the dairy industry.
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is promoting support programs in three areas-livestock breeding, farm management stability, and facility improvement-to strengthen the competitiveness of the dairy industry. The province is also working to boost milk consumption and revitalize the sixth industrial sector through school milk programs for socially disadvantaged students and support for dairy experience farms.
Additionally, the Gyeonggi Livestock Promotion Center has formed a Jersey cattle farmers’ council and is accelerating the establishment of dedicated Jersey farms to foster new Jersey breeds and develop a solid foundation for their breeding.

Shin Jonggwang, Director of Livestock Policy at Gyeonggi Province, said, "This contest proved the effectiveness of Gyeonggi Province’s systematic dairy support policies and ongoing livestock breeding achievements. As milk and dairy products will become tariff-free under the Korea-US FTA starting in 2026, the province will continue to expand support and investment to ensure a stable foundation for the dairy industry."
