Health and Education Ministries Discuss Comprehensive Development Plan for National University Hospitals
Second Meeting of the "Regional, Essential, and Public Healthcare Strengthening Council" Held
On October 20, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced that it held the second meeting of the "Regional, Essential, and Public Healthcare Strengthening Council" at the Government Sejong Complex. During the meeting, participants discussed ways to strengthen the role of national university hospitals amid the crisis in regional, essential, and public healthcare, as well as comprehensive support measures for clinical work, education, and research to assist these efforts.

View original imageThe meeting was presided over by Lee Hyung-hoon, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and attended by Jeong Tong-ryeong, Director of Public Health Policy, Yoon Hye-jun, Director of Medical Education Infrastructure at the Ministry of Education, and the presidents of Chungnam National University Hospital, Kyungpook National University Hospital, Jeonbuk National University Hospital, and Kangwon National University Hospital, representing each region.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Education presented a blueprint for fostering national university hospitals as regional hubs, which is a key government initiative. They also announced plans to establish a "Comprehensive Development Plan for National University Hospitals to Strengthen Regional, Essential, and Public Healthcare" by gathering feedback through the council and on-site meetings at national university hospitals.
In addition, separate from the council, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Education plan to visit individual national university hospitals to strengthen communication in the field, providing thorough explanations to staff members regarding capacity-building measures and addressing on-site concerns.

Lee Hyung-hoon, the 2nd Vice Minister, stated, "Until now, the government and national university hospitals have communicated in various ways, but it is now time to discuss the roles and support measures for national university hospitals in strengthening regional, essential, and public healthcare in more concrete terms. While further enhancing communication, we will also swiftly implement the necessary policies to foster national university hospitals as regional hubs, considering the urgency of the regional healthcare crisis."
