Half of NIRS Fire-Disrupted Systems Restored... 21 Days After Incident
The recovery rate of the government’s computer systems, which were disrupted by the fire at the Daejeon headquarters of the National Information Resources Service (NIRS), has surpassed 50% after 21 days since the incident.

View original imageAccording to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on October 17, as of 9:00 p.m. that day, 357 out of a total of 709 systems (50.4%) had been restored, which is an increase of 10 systems compared to 6:00 p.m. the same day.
By classification, 31 first-grade systems (77.5%), 41 second-grade systems (60.3%), 146 third-grade systems (55.9%), and 139 fourth-grade systems (40.9%) have been restored. Newly restored systems include the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Public Resource Open Sharing Management System (Gongyunuri, fourth grade), the National Data Office’s Book Management System (Statistical Library, fourth grade), and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Electronic Official Gazette System (third grade).

Previously, at around 8:15 p.m. on September 26, a fire broke out during a lithium battery replacement in Computer Room 7-1 on the fifth floor of the NIRS Daejeon headquarters, resulting in the suspension of 709 government computer systems. The government plans to resume the remaining unrecovered systems at the Daejeon center by November 20, except for 20 systems that will be relocated to the Daegu center.
