8-Meter Iron Ship Structure Topples at Large Geoje Shipyard, Killing Worker in His 60s
At approximately 10:50 a.m. on October 17, a structure being assembled and installed as a ship platform at a large shipyard in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, toppled over while being lifted by a crane and struck a worker below.
As a result of the accident, a subcontractor employee in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, who was working beneath the structure, was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, but passed away later that morning.
Due to the aftermath of the accident, work at the shipyard was suspended for the day.
The toppled platform structure was identified as an iron frame approximately 8 meters in length.
The police are investigating the company to determine whether there was any negligence and to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
