BNK Kyongnam Bank Hosts "Opera Viewing Event" for Local Residents
Celebrating the 34th Anniversary of the Kyongnam Opera Company
Opera "Nongae" Presented to Mark the Occasion
Since 2000, BNK Kyongnam Bank has continuously supported the Kyongnam Opera Company for 26 years, leading the development of local culture and arts while providing opportunities for local residents to enjoy cultural experiences.
On the evening of October 16, BNK Kyongnam Bank hosted an event to watch the opera "Nongae," celebrating the 34th anniversary of the Kyongnam Opera Company's founding.
Approximately 1,400 people, including local residents and customers, attended the opera viewing event held at the Grand Theater of the Seongsan Art Hall in Changwon.
The invited local residents and customers watched "Nongae," the first original opera in the Kyongnam region, which was restaged 20 years after its premiere in 2005, for about 120 minutes.
The opera "Nongae" artistically depicts the noble sacrifices of generals and citizens who fought to defend Jinju Fortress during the Japanese invasions of Korea in 1593, as well as Nongae's dignified love and spirit.
The main roles were performed by soprano Lee Sujin as Nongae, tenor Noh Sunghoon as General Hwang Jin, mezzo-soprano Shin Sunghui as Gyehwa, bass Hwang Dongnam as the Japanese general, baritone Kim Kwanghyun as General Kim Cheonil, and baritone Choi Mose as General Choi Gyeonghoe.
The audience was captivated by the opera "Nongae," which conveyed the noble spirit of sacrifice and national resonance against the backdrop of Jinju Fortress, a symbol of the region.
Bank President Kim Taehan said, "The story of the people and generals who tried to defend Jinju Fortress to the very end, and of Nongae, who gave herself for her people and country, resonates deeply with us even today. I hope that this noble spirit, delivered through music and stage, will touch the heart of each audience member, inspiring courage for life and pride in our region."
He added, "The Kyongnam Opera Company has steadfastly protected local culture and the arts with unwavering conviction and passion for many years. It has been a great honor for BNK Kyongnam Bank to walk this path together as a long-time partner and the region’s leading bank. We will continue to offer our unwavering support so that our region’s culture and arts can flourish even more abundantly in the future."
Prior to the opera viewing event, on July 30, BNK Kyongnam Bank delivered a sponsorship fund of 140 million won to the Kyongnam Opera Company to help ensure the successful staging of the opera "Nongae."
