Naracella: "Soju Story Signs K-Distilled Spirits R&D Agreement with Kyungpook National University"
Soju Story, a subsidiary of Naracella, announced on October 16 that it had signed an industry-academia cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Kyungpook National University to advance and globalize the K-distilled spirits industry. The agreement aims to enhance the global competitiveness of K-distilled spirits by integrating data-driven research and development (R&D) and fermentation engineering technologies into the distilled spirits sector.

Under the agreement, both parties will jointly pursue: ▲ research on the optimal blending ratios and aging methods for various base spirits, and the establishment of a blending operation model; ▲ development of new products based on differentiated flavors for low- and high-proof lines and global consumer preferences; ▲ research on flavor-specialized yeast and standard nuruk strains, and the development of dedicated microbial lines specialized for low-temperature fermentation and key flavor realization; ▲ exchange of human, material resources, and data for distilled spirits research and development; and ▲ research on the globalization and quality standardization of Andong's unique distilled spirits.
The plan is to combine the research capabilities of the Kyungpook National University Institute of Fermentation and Biotechnology with Soju Story's traditional distilled spirits manufacturing technology to establish a data-driven R&D system and a global quality standard model. Through this, the company aims to secure consistent quality for domestic distilled spirits and strengthen the scientific foundation for entering overseas markets.
Soju Story views this agreement as a turning point that presents the potential for high value-added transformation and global expansion of the traditional industry. Moving forward, the company plans to leverage Naracella Group's global distribution network to simultaneously launch new premium distilled spirits businesses, commercialize joint research outcomes, and develop concrete models for entering overseas markets.
A company representative stated, "This agreement is a meaningful attempt to incorporate scientific approaches and innovative technologies into the distilled spirits industry," adding, "By combining Kyungpook National University's research data with Naracella's distribution infrastructure, a practical foundation can be established for the K-distilled spirits industry to become an export-oriented sector." The representative further noted, "We expect to secure new growth engines by globalizing K-distilled spirits and enhancing the competitiveness of traditional Korean spirits."
