Police to File Damages Claim Against Man in His 20s for "Shinsegae Department Store Bomb Threat"
The police have decided to file a claim for damages against a man in his 20s who posted a bomb threat targeting Shinsegae Department Store in August.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on October 16 that it had convened a Compensation Review Committee and decided to seek damages from Mr. A, a man in his 20s, who is accused of making a public threat.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to proceed with a lawsuit once the decision is finalized, following consultation with the National Police Agency and final approval from the Ministry of Justice.
The police are preparing a claim for damages of approximately 20 million won, including dispatch allowances, fuel costs, and labor expenses for the personnel mobilized at the time. This is based on the grounds that Mr. A caused a large-scale waste of public resources.
Mr. A was apprehended in Hadong County, South Gyeongsang Province, on charges of posting a comment on a YouTube news video about the Shinsegae Department Store headquarters bomb threat on August 5, stating, "I will blow up Shinsegae at 5 p.m. tomorrow."
