Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Begins Operational Normalization... First Labor-Management-Government Task Force Meeting
Gyeonggi Province is taking steps to normalize the operation of the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center.
On October 16, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had reached a consensus with the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center and its labor union on October 15 to cooperate in normalizing the center's operations and expanding public healthcare services.
On the same day, representatives from the three organizations held the first meeting of the "Labor-Management-Government Task Force for Normalization of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Operations and Sustainable Expansion of Public Healthcare" in the main conference room of the medical center. They agreed to work together to normalize operations, restore financial soundness, and establish a sustainable public healthcare system.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center has seen a recovery in patient numbers and medical revenue since the COVID-19 pandemic, but the pace of recovery has been slow. The center is also facing financial difficulties due to persistent structural deficits common to public healthcare institutions. In response, the labor union is urging for measures to address delayed wage payments and chronic financial challenges.
During the meeting, participants discussed: ▲ implementation plans to achieve operational normalization ▲ expansion of essential medical personnel and improvement of working conditions ▲ and strategies to build a sustainable public healthcare system.

I hope this meeting will serve as a starting point for mutual growth and trust, leading to the creation of a public healthcare environment where residents of Gyeonggi Province can feel safe and secure."
Kim Jeonga, Representative Union Branch Chief of Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center, stated, "Although public hospitals continue to face staffing shortages and heavy workloads, I believe that if labor, management, and government work together with wisdom, these challenges can be overcome. The union will also make efforts to ensure that the voices of those on the medical frontlines are reflected in policy, and to create a hospital where both patients and staff are happy."
Yoo Youngcheol, Director of the Health and Wellness Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will work together to devise institutional and financial support measures so that the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center can stably fulfill its role as a core hub of public healthcare. Labor, management, and government will join forces to actively establish a sustainable public healthcare system."
Going forward, the three organizations plan to develop an "Operational Normalization Roadmap" through regular labor-management-government meetings and working-level consultations. They will also gradually implement specific action items, such as securing financial soundness for each hospital, improving workforce management efficiency, and enhancing organizational culture.
