Sia's Ex-Husband Demands
Monthly Spousal Support of $250,000
"To Maintain a Luxurious Upper-Class Lifestyle"
The ex-husband of world-renowned Australian singer-songwriter Sia has demanded approximately $250,000 (about 350 million won) per month in spousal support, arguing that he should be able to "maintain the standard of living enjoyed during the marriage" even after their divorce.
"About $600,000 spent monthly during marriage...luxury vacations, fine dining, private jets, and more"
According to the BBC and other British media on October 14 (local time), Sia filed for divorce from Daniel Bernard in March, citing "irreconcilable differences." In documents submitted to the court, her ex-husband Daniel Bernard claimed he needed the requested monthly support to maintain the luxurious, upper-class lifestyle he enjoyed during their marriage.
He explained, "After quitting my job as a doctor to run a medical-related business with Sia for a short period, I lost my income and became financially dependent on her." He added, "We spent more than $400,000 (about 570 million won) a month on private jets, vacations, fine dining, and employing multiple dedicated staff. We never had to manage our living expenses."
"Sia was the breadwinner...spousal support is justified"
Bernard argued, "Sia was the breadwinner during our marriage." He continued, "Currently, I am unemployed, and returning to my medical career would require several years of additional training and examinations. Therefore, it is reasonable to award temporary spousal support of $250,000 per month."
Sia, who debuted in 1997, is a world-famous singer-songwriter with numerous hit songs such as "Chandelier" and "Snowman." She gained fame for her "faceless singer" concept, performing with her back to the audience or covering her face. Sia has explained her decision to hide her identity by saying, "I don't want to be famous or in the spotlight. I don't want to see criticism about myself on the internet." She married film producer Erik Anders Lang in 2014 and divorced in 2016. She remarried Daniel Bernard in 2022, but the couple separated after three years.
