Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Member Lee Sunhee Wins 'Korea Globalization Contribution Award'... "Will Dedicate Myself to Regional and National Development"
Lee Sunhee, Chairperson of the Planning and Economy Committee of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council (People Power Party, Cheongdo), was awarded the 'Korea Globalization Contribution Award' in recognition of her contributions to regional internationalization and the expansion of women's leadership at the 10th World Korean Women’s Conference held on the 13th at the National Assembly Museum (formerly Heonjeong Hall) in Seoul.
This event was co-hosted by the United World Korean Women and Lee Inseon, Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Gender Equality and Family Committee, and sponsored by the ICKC World Korean Cultural Exchange Association. The ceremony was attended by numerous Korean women leaders active around the world, as well as major domestic figures, who gathered to celebrate individuals who have contributed to regional internationalization and the expansion of women’s leadership.

View original imageThe United World Korean Women (UWKW) is celebrating its 12th anniversary this year. The organization has played a key role in presenting policy directions and future visions for overseas Korean women, and has strengthened exchanges and cooperation among Korean women worldwide based on Korean identity. In particular, the '4th Korea Globalization Contribution and Service Awards Ceremony,' held alongside this conference, recognized individuals from various fields who have contributed to enhancing the nation’s status, globalization, and the spread of female leadership. This event has become a platform for expanding the international influence of Korean women worldwide.
Chairperson Lee Sunhee, a two-term provincial council member from Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, has served as Chairperson of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts and Chairperson of the Planning and Economy Committee in the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council. She has established institutional foundations for balanced regional development, fostering future industries, and strengthening local autonomy. In particular, following the confirmation of Gyeongju as the host city for the APEC Summit, she led the enactment of the 'Gyeongsangbuk-do 2025 APEC Summit Support Ordinance,' which was highly praised for laying the groundwork for Gyeongbuk to successfully host a global international event.
In addition, Lee Sunhee previously served as the Women’s Committee Chairperson of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Party of the Liberty Korea Party (now People Power Party), and is currently serving as Vice Chairperson of the People Power Party’s Central Training Committee and President of the Gyeongbuk Women Council Members’ Association. As a female leader, she has demonstrated communicative and inclusive leadership, working to expand women’s participation in society and strengthen the policy foundation for women.
In her acceptance speech, Chairperson Lee stated, “As a female politician from a local region, I am deeply grateful and feel a great sense of responsibility to have my efforts for the development of Gyeongbuk and the future competitiveness of Korea recognized.” She added, “I will continue to do my utmost to bring about tangible improvements in the quality of life that residents in the region can feel.” She went on to say, “Korean women around the world are supporting each other and enhancing the reputation of Korea. As one of them, I will dedicate myself even more so that the potential and capabilities of women can become a new driving force for regional and national development.”

Meanwhile, the 10th World Korean Women’s Conference began with the opening ceremony, the 'K-culture Globalization' forum, and the '4th Korea Globalization Contribution and Service Awards Ceremony.' From the 13th to the 15th, a variety of events including cultural exchanges and academic forums are scheduled to take place over three days and two nights in Andong, Gyeongbuk, a region known for its living spirit of the Korean people and traditional culture, and home to the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government.
