Chonnam National University Hospital Achieves S Grade for Emergency Medical Contribution Assessment Three Times in a Row
Chonnam National University Hospital announced on October 14 that its Regional Emergency Medical Center has received the highest S grade for the third consecutive time in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s “2025 Emergency Medical Contribution Assessment.”
This assessment, conducted from June to August, evaluated 44 regional emergency medical centers nationwide. It comprehensively reflected factors such as the change rate and share rate of critically ill emergency patient admissions, as well as the change rate of critical emergency patient treatments and the change rate of transfer ratios.
The change rate in the number of critically ill emergency patients admitted to Chonnam National University Hospital was 275.1%, an increase of 85.3% compared to the previous year. This figure is 117.7% higher than the national average change rate for regional emergency medical centers, which stood at 157.4%. Furthermore, Chonnam National University Hospital was found to be responsible for more than half of the critical emergency patient admissions in its region.
In addition, the hospital’s change rate for critical emergency patient treatment reached 320%, which is 141.6% higher than the national average of 178.4%. As a result, Chonnam National University Hospital has proven itself as the nation’s leading emergency medical institution by achieving the highest S grade for three consecutive rounds of assessment: first (December 2024 to February 2025), second (March to May), and third rounds.
During the emergency medical response period, the Chonnam National University Hospital Regional Emergency Medical Center handled the largest number of critically ill emergency patients among emergency medical institutions in the Honam region, faithfully fulfilling its role as a regional hub hospital. In particular, the center has demonstrated its core capabilities in crisis situations by successfully performing numerous advanced critical care procedures, such as the rapid application of ECMO for lightning-induced cardiac arrest patients.
